On Friday, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima stood in for President Bola Tinubu at the wedding fatiha of Abdullah Sambo, son of former Vice President Namadi Sambo. The event took place in Kano State, where Senator Shettima was warmly welcomed by key officials including Kano’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who represented Governor Abba Yusuf, alongside Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje of Gombe Central and other senior government figures.
The nuptial ceremony was held at the historic Al-Furqan Mosque in Kano, officiated by the Chief Imam, Sheikh Bashir Umar. Following the traditional payment of a bride price amounting to N500,000, the marriage rites were solemnized in accordance with Islamic customs. Senator Shettima represented the groom’s family, while Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, represented the bride’s family, whose daughter is the offspring of Professor Abdullahi Umar.

The solemnization was led by Dr. Muhammad Kabir Adam, Imam of the National Mosque, alongside other respected Imams. The customary dowry of N500,000 was paid, and in a symbolic gesture, Vice President Shettima gave the bride, Maryam, away to the Baffa Jibrin family.
The Abuja ceremony was attended by hundreds, including prominent figures such as Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, reflecting the event’s wide-reaching social importance.
