The Wholesome Mind Xperience, an annual summit dedicated to mental health advocacy in Ghana, is set to take place again on October 10, 2025. This year’s event marks the commencement of a major renovation project for the Special Ward at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, reflecting ongoing efforts to enhance mental health infrastructure nationwide.
Central to this initiative is a fundraising drive targeting GHS 4 million, aimed at transforming the Special Ward into Ghana’s inaugural Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This specialized unit will cater to patients undergoing severe mental health episodes, offering advanced and focused treatment options.
In a significant boost to the campaign, the Commissioner General has officially recognized the Wholesome Mind Project as a Worthwhile Cause under Section 100 of the Income Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896). This designation means that all donations made in support of the project during the 2025 tax year will qualify for tax deductions, encouraging greater philanthropic participation.
Under the theme “Mental Health Awareness for All Ages,” this year’s summit will be hosted at the prestigious Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. The gathering will unite mental health experts, caregivers, families, advocates, and policymakers for a comprehensive day of panel discussions, wellness sessions, and interactive dialogues addressing mental health challenges across different stages of life.
The event is spearheaded by VINT & Aletheia Attorneys and Consultants, who are also managing the extensive fundraising campaign. Their outreach targets individuals, corporate sponsors, and development partners to rally support for this transformative project.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), people living with mental health disorders deserve treatment in environments that prioritize safety, dignity, and recovery. The envisioned Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) aims to meet these global standards by providing specialized care for individuals facing acute mental health crises.
Improving mental health outcomes extends beyond raising awareness; it demands sustained investment, robust infrastructure, and collaborative support systems. The Special Ward at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital has long served patients with complex mental health needs but continues to grapple with outdated facilities and limited resources.
The newly launched fundraising campaign seeks to address these challenges by upgrading the ward’s infrastructure and enhancing the quality of care. Organizers stress that every donation, regardless of size, plays a crucial role in expanding access to quality mental health services across Ghana.
