Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been honored as the Best Performing Minister of the Year 2025. Meanwhile, Senator Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, received the accolade for Best Performing Governor of the Year.
These prestigious awards recognize their substantial investments aimed at delivering the benefits of democracy directly to local communities.
Hosted by Face of Democracy Nigeria (FDN), the event also acknowledged the efforts of notable figures including Nigerian Senators Sani Musa and Opeyemi Bamidele, Botswana’s President Duma Gideon Boko, former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and the governors of Borno, Cross River, Ondo, Oyo, and Katsina states.
Wike, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State, earned his award for significantly expanding the infrastructure of Nigeria’s capital, elevating it to a world-class status. Since his appointment in 2023, the FCT has experienced remarkable improvements in its road systems, street lighting, essential services, and efforts to reduce street begging and homelessness.
Similarly, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna has made notable strides in enhancing security, boosting agricultural development, and investing in both infrastructure and education sectors.
The Democracy Heroes Award celebrates political leaders who have made meaningful contributions to strengthening democratic values in Nigeria through impactful initiatives. It also honors entrepreneurs, business leaders, and entertainers who have fostered stability by creating jobs, empowering youth, and alleviating poverty.
Additional recipients include the governors of Delta, Ebonyi, Kaduna, and Kebbi states, alongside distinguished personalities from politics, commerce, and the entertainment industry.
Under the theme “Legacy of Leadership: Powering Africa’s Future,” the Democracy Heroes Award Africa 2025 is scheduled for October 16th at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
