The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has robustly endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s ambitious infrastructure agenda, affirming that the surge in construction activities within the fct-police-command-denies-sealing-pdp-secretariat/” title=”… police command denies sealing PDP Secretariat”>territory is a direct reflection of the President’s strategic vision.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Mohammed Isa Road Extension in Asokoro, Wike also urged residents to enhance their tax compliance to sustain ongoing developments.
This ceremony marked the tenth straight day of project unveilings throughout the capital city, a momentum the Minister highlighted as proof of a government dedicated to tangible progress.
During the event, Wike disclosed that a well-known government skeptic had privately approached him, requesting the very road project being commissioned.
“He came up to me and said, ‘You’ve been delivering infrastructure, but what about us in the Asokoro extension?’ I responded, ‘So you acknowledge that Mr. President’s administration is indeed providing infrastructure through our efforts. Why then do you claim the government is inactive?'” Wike recounted.
The critic then retracted his earlier skepticism, admitting, “I should disregard that. Not everything said should be taken seriously.” To which I replied, ‘How am I supposed to know when to take you seriously?'”
Wike confronted detractors head-on, asserting, “It’s illogical to claim the FCT is progressing while the President is not. The two are inseparable.”
“We implement the President’s directives and vision, which includes positioning the FCT to compete on a global scale with other major cities. That is precisely our mission,” he added.
The Minister also underscored the economic impact of these projects, particularly in generating employment opportunities for young people.
“Consider the daily job creation happening right now-that’s real economic growth,” he emphasized.
Turning to the critical issue of funding, Wike employed a local saying to stress the importance of tax contributions: “Dis soup sweet, na money kill am.”
“Without the necessary funds, the soup tastes bland like ordinary water. But with adequate resources, it becomes irresistible,” he explained.
He made a direct appeal to the public, linking their tax payments to the continuation of infrastructure improvements: “All these quality roads, efficient drainage systems, and street lighting wouldn’t be achievable without your tax contributions. So please, pay your taxes to enable us to do more.”
Wike reassured residents that the government’s transformative efforts extend beyond roadworks, with plans to renovate at least 40 schools and launch new initiatives in the healthcare sector, ensuring no area of public service is overlooked.
