Governor Monday Okpebholo Reaffirms Determined Fight Against Cultism and Kidnapping in Edo State
Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering resolve to eradicate the persistent challenges of cultism and kidnapping that have long afflicted the region.
Marking Progress at 55: A Milestone of Commitment and Success
During a thanksgiving ceremony held at the Government House Chapel to celebrate his 55th birthday, Governor Okpebholo confidently announced that his government is making significant headway in curbing these criminal activities.
Early Challenges and Immediate Response
Represented at the event by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, the governor recounted a harrowing incident that occurred just 48 hours after his inauguration in November 2024. While on an official visit to Akure, Ondo State, he received distressing news of cult-related violence in Edo that resulted in the deaths of over 20 youths.
“Receiving such tragic news so soon after taking office was a stark wake-up call. I immediately pledged to eradicate cultism, kidnapping, and all forms of criminality from Edo State. Nearly a year later, with divine favor and the steadfast support of Edo citizens, we are making remarkable progress,” he affirmed.
Restoring Stability and Public Confidence
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that his administration inherited a state fraught with instability and uncertainty. However, through strategic interventions, his government has restored peace and boosted public trust.
“Our administration is built on the foundation of delivering on promises. From enhancing security to improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare, we are committed to tangible results for the people of Edo State,” he stated.
Community and Leadership Endorsements
The thanksgiving event attracted a diverse group of attendees, including government officials, advisors, religious leaders, and close associates, all of whom praised the governor’s visionary leadership and developmental achievements.
Mr. Paul Ezenwa, Special Adviser on Electronic Media, congratulated the governor and highlighted the transformative nature of his leadership. “Despite initial skepticism, Governor Okpebholo has proven his detractors wrong. Edo people are encouraged to continue supporting him through prayers as he propels the state forward,” Ezenwa remarked.
Meritocracy and Inclusive Governance
Dr. Andrew Iyamu, Special Adviser on Health, commended the governor’s judicious appointments, noting that selections were based on competence rather than personal affiliations. “My appointment was purely merit-based, reflecting Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to inclusive and performance-oriented governance,” he explained.
Looking Ahead: Sustaining the Momentum
As Edo State continues to make strides in combating crime and fostering development, Governor Okpebholo’s administration remains focused on consolidating gains and expanding initiatives that promote security, social welfare, and economic growth.
Recent statistics from the Edo State Security Council indicate a 40% reduction in cult-related incidents and a 35% decline in kidnapping cases since the governor took office, underscoring the effectiveness of the current strategies.
With continued community engagement and strategic partnerships, Edo State is poised to become a model of peace and progress in the region.
