The Federal Government has celebrated outstanding educators and institutions that have made significant contributions to nation-building through education.
The culminating event of the 2025 World Teachers’ Day festivities, alongside the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards, took place on Sunday at Eagle Square, Abuja. This year’s theme was “Reimagining Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.”
At the forefront of the honorees was Emmanuel Ozor Charles from Greater Tomorrow International College, Ondo, who was awarded Best Public Private School Teacher, receiving a cash prize of N3.5 million for his exemplary dedication.
Solanke Francis Taiwo of Ansar-Udeen Main School, Kemta, Abeokuta, Ogun State, earned the Best Teacher (CAR) accolade, recognized for his unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence and nurturing young learners.
In the Basic School category, Woliwo Primary School in Onitsha, Anambra State, distinguished itself by winning the Best School (BUS) award. Meanwhile, Onike Girls Junior High School, Lagos, was honored as the Best Junior Secondary School (BUS) for its outstanding achievements in academics, discipline, and empowering female students.
The Best School Leader award, accompanied by a N3.5 million prize, was presented to Mrs. Odenike Fausat Mobolaji of Elepe Community Junior High School, Ikorodu, Lagos. She was celebrated for her exceptional leadership, mentorship, and dedication to enhancing school performance and teacher-training-mini-computers/” title=”Katsina Government Empowers Educators with Massive Training Program and Distributes 20,000 Mini Computers”>teacher development.
Fayomi Felix from Idepe High School, Okitipupa, Ondo State, was recognized as the Best Public School Teacher, receiving N3.5 million for his innovative instructional approaches and commitment to student achievement.
Highlighting the ceremony was Ubani Roseblund Ibiyiye of Federal Government College, Abuloma, who secured the prestigious Best Teacher award, along with a N3.5 million prize, symbolizing the highest standard of teaching excellence in Nigeria.
This award presentation was part of the broader 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebrations held annually on October 5, aimed at emphasizing the empowerment, motivation, and vital role of teachers in shaping the future of education.
Addressing attendees, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, reiterated the Federal Government’s dedication to supporting educators through policies and initiatives that encourage collaboration, ongoing professional growth, and national development.
“It is inspiring to see the global community recognize the selfless efforts of teachers, who are the cornerstone of progress everywhere. Investing in teachers is investing in quality education, student success, and the advancement of our nation,” he remarked.
Dr. Alausa highlighted that fostering teamwork among teachers enhances both student learning and teacher satisfaction. “When educators engage in peer mentoring, collaborative lesson planning, co-teaching, and utilize digital tools, the quality of education improves, and teachers experience meaningful professional development,” he explained.
He further noted that the Ministry of Education has launched several programs to rejuvenate the teaching profession, including the National Teacher Policy, which guarantees that teachers receive continuous training, motivation, and professional support.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to distinguished state governors, recognition for the best march past, and the prestigious President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards.
