Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the family of the late elder statesman and former Nigerian Ambassador to Tunisia, Muhammad Jabbi Maradun.
Ambassador Jabbi passed away at 82 years old in Abuja on Saturday, following a lengthy illness.
In a statement released on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Ambassador Muhammad Jabbi was honored as a committed elder statesman who played a pivotal role in the establishment of Zamfara State.
The statement highlighted: “We deeply mourn the loss of Ambassador Muhammad Jabbi Maradun, a revered elder statesman and a proud native of Zamfara State.
“Born on November 12, 1943, in Maradun Local Government Area, Ambassador Jabbi’s legacy is marked by his distinguished service as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Tunisia from 1999 to 2003.
“He was instrumental in the advocacy efforts that led to the creation of Zamfara State.
“After the state’s formation, he contributed significantly to the inaugural military administration under Colonel Jibril Bala Yakubu, holding the position of Commissioner for Commerce, Industries, and Tourism.
“Throughout his political journey, he was affiliated with parties such as GNPP, NPN, and NRC, and later became an influential member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“His last notable public appointment was as a Federal Commissioner at the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission, where he served with honor from 2005 until 2015.
“On behalf of Zamfara’s citizens, we offer our sincere condolences to his immediate family, the emirate, and the people of Maradun Local Government. May Allah pardon his faults and grant him eternal peace in Jannah.”
